The countdown is on!

E-books!

There are only a few weeks left before the official kick-off of the Bement MCBA program. This year we have added e-books to the collection, and several titles are available electronically. Also, the 6th grade will be participating.
I predict we will also have our first 25 readers; students who challenge themselves and read the entire list of nominated books.
Can't wait for the mad reading to begin!

90 Miles to Havana

I just finished 90 Miles to Havana by Enrique Flore- Galbis. This is wonderful story of courage; Julian flees Cuba in the early 1960s to come to America. It centers around events that many of us don't know much about--revolts, dictators, immigration, and Julian's story is captivating.
This book was recommended to me by Ms. Mullens' class and it has earned a 5-star ranking on Destiny. Read their reviews to learn more!

2nd Place - a 3-way tie!

And the Bement School winner is.....

Our school results have been forwarded to Salem State University, organizers of the state program. Next year's list will be released in June, just in time for some great summer reading.

Battle of the Books

On Thursday we held our first Battle of the Books. Twenty students in grades 4 and 5 took part, reading books and writing questions. The competition was very evenly matched and the readers demonstrated great recall of the details of the books they had read.
Congratulations to Sarah, Adia, Christi, Peyton and Cameron this year's winning team and to all our participants: Isabelle Manisha, Irvine, Clarese, Drew, Zac, Trudie, Kate,
Audrey, Claire P., Claire O.,  Adam, Ashley,  Gracie, and  Angie. Thanks to Peter our scorekeeper and Sara our photographer.
It was a lot of fun!
